Business in Canada Programs

Owner-Operator Work Permit

Applicants who want to establish a new business or expand their foreign business in Canada can apply for a work permit under this category to operate and manage their Canadian business.

To be eligible for an Owner-Operator work permit based on an approved LMIA, the applicant must:

  • Have a minimum of 51 percent ownership of the Canadian business
  • Must be compensated with a wage that is equal or greater than the required wage for that position that is being applying for
  • The business that the applicant will operate should result in the creation or retention of employment opportunities for Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • Have a business plan as per Canadian Standards
  • Business plan should have steps that will be taken and marketing research analysis that shows it is a viable business.
  • Hire at least 1-2 Canadian Citizens or Permanent Resident in the first year of operations.

Intra-Company Transfer - Work Permit for Business

Applicants who want to establish a new business or expand their foreign business in Canada can apply for a work permit under the International Mobility Program to operate and manage their Canadian business.

However, under this program, the Canadian business should be a related/subsidiary of foreign business.

To be eligible to apply for work permit based this program, the applicant must:

  • Have a minimum of 51 percent ownership of the Canadian business
  • Must be compensated with a wage that is equal or greater than the required wage for that position that is being applying for.
  • The business that the applicant will operate should result in the creation or retention of employment opportunities for Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • Have a business plan as per Canadian Standards
  • Business plan should have steps that will be taken and marketing research analysis that shows it is a viable business.
  • Have the Offer of Employment from Employer registered with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

Quebec Investors Program

As the name of the program implies, the Quebec Investors Program is a great way to invest and immigrate to Canada!

To qualify, the applicant must meet the minimum requirements below:

  • Verifiable proof that applicant has legally acquired net assets of at least $2M
  • Have completed 2 years of management experience within the past 5 years before submission of application. This is to prove the applicant has performed duties related to planning, management and control of financial, human and/or material resources
  • Must intend to settle in Québec only.
  • Have to sign an investment agreement with an authorised financial intermediary for this Investor Program
  • If accepted, the applicant must make a 5-year term investment of $1.2M
  • Provide an attestation of learning about democratic values and the Québec values for applicant and accompanying family members.

Your application will also be assessed on other factors, such as your age, education and language skills.
